24-Hour Staffed Helpline
A 24-hour telephone helpline is provided and staffed by professionally trained counselors and will be available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Telephone Screening
When a participant contacts ATAP, an initial assessment is conducted over the telephone in order to determine whether there is a need for emergency services. Based upon this initial assessment, either an immediate referral is made or an appointment is scheduled for a formal evaluation.
Referral Services
Based upon the initial telephone screen and/or the formal evaluation, individuals are referred to treatment. The selection of
treatment providers is determined by criteria such as: the treatment needs of the worker, the quality of the provider's
services and the cost of the provider's services. In all cases, the goal is to match the individual with the most appropriate
and least expensive level of care.
Follow-up Contacts
Supportive follow-up contacts are made both during and after an individual has entered a treatment program in order to
supplement and monitor the care received. These contacts are conducted according to an individually established
schedule depending upon the needs of the individual and continue for not less than six months after completion of
treatment.
Consultation Services
Staff is available for consultation on matters ranging from the specifics of handling an impaired worker to the
implementation of a labor/management anti-drug program.
SAP Services
ATAP provides full Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) services stemming from violations of the Department of
Transportation Drug and Alcohol Policy Statement including: initial SAP evaluation, communication with DER, follow-up
evaluation, drug and alcohol follow-up testing plan and client monitoring/aftercare.
Stress, Family and Other Problems
The same services which are offered for psychiatric and chemical dependency problems are offered for stress and family
problems, and any other problems which require professional assistance.
Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)/Debriefing (CISD)
With increased threat and incidents of traumatic events in the workplace, it is critical that organizations develop a plan for
crisis intervention and support. ATAP has put together a team of crisis experts that are able to advise and debrief on critical
incidents including: traumatic accidents, violence, fatalities, national disasters etc. ATAP is prepared -- immediate response
time, local response team and preventative consultation and planning.
Aftercare Programs
Helping members maintain recovery after completing treatment is an important goal of the Allied Trades Assistance
Program. ATAP has created a 12-week aftercare program designed to provide support and direction in the early phases of
recovery. The group sessions reinforce the need for active participation in self-help and explore any difficulties or resistance
the member is experiencing. The group leader is also available to assist members in re-engaging in active treatment if
necessary. |
